The GST Council, led by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, will convene on June 22, 2024.
The 53rd meeting of the GST, slated to occur in New Delhi, has been announced by the GST Council Secretariat on X, formerly recognized as Twitter.
However, the specific agenda for the meeting has not yet been disclosed to the council members.
This upcoming meeting will be the first gathering of the council since the Lok Sabha elections.
Following the announcement of election results on June 4, Sitharaman was sworn in as a cabinet minister in the new Modi government on June 9.
The last meeting of the GST Council, its 52nd, took place on October 7, 2023.
There is speculation within the industry about the potential topics to be discussed during the meeting.
One such topic is the possible inclusion of natural gas and aviation turbine fuel under the GST framework.
Additionally, the Council is expected to offer clarifications on various significant matters, including related-party transactions, taxation of employee stock option plans (ESOPs), treatment of corporate guarantees, and the inverted duty structure in textiles and fertilizers.
